How NetDocuments is Accelerating Global Cloud Growth: A Look Under the Hood

18/8/2019

As ILTACON 2019, the biggest legal technology-focused peer networking event of its kind, kicks-off in Orlando, NetDocuments is proud to announce strong demand for its market-leading cloud platform. While the press release provides all the relevant growth metrics and stats, this post takes a closer look at “the why”. If you’re in town for ILTACON, please stop by booth 519 to say hello, attend one of our educational sessions, or reach out to set up a demo.

Product Innovation

NetDocuments has spent decades focused on productivity, meeting legal professionals where they work in the applications they are already using. 2019 is no exception with the unveiling of new applications and improvements to existing ones that underscore the mantra “when intelligence is shared, predictions are better.”

Productive Collaboration

NetDocuments has updated the approach to extranets, native to the NetDocuments platform. Available in preview release now, CollabSpaces, a replacement to ShareSpaces, provides the safest method to share content securely with external users without having to transfer content to a third-party file sharing service or extranet platform.

Earlier this summer, NetDocuments announced its launch of SetBuilder, an easy way for users to combine and organize sets of documents in one location entirely within the secure NetDocuments infrastructure. SetBuilder coordinates closings, automates manual closing binder processes and drastically accelerates the time-consuming and manual closing process. Within the first month of general availability, the company is averaging approximately one new SetBuilder customer per day.

Less Email. Better Managed

Business communication practices are evolving daily. New generations use text messages, direct messaging or other social tools not traditionally governed by corporate and client communication policies. ndThread, the direct messaging and threaded communication product introduced in 2018 as a result of NetDocuments’ acquisition of ThreadKM, addresses new communication methods. It supports direct messaging, centralizes conversations by project or client, and automatically applies security and information governance to all transfers of information. With tens of thousands of users already signed up, the future for ndThread and NetDocuments’ ‘Less Email. Better Managed’ philosophy is bright.

NetDocuments’ collaboration solution is rounded out by ndMail, the predictive email platform deployed by hundreds of customers globally since its launch in 2018. To put usage and adoption into perspective, in July, customers filed 2.5 million emails based on tens-of-millions of filing recommendations. Email filing rates are growing monthly, with 13% month-to-month growth from the latest data. ndMail is unique because no local servers are required and predictions are based on customer’s previously filed emails, not just a single user.

Security Market Leadership

NetDocuments is the market leader in delivering secure cloud solutions to the legal market. The evolution in cloud security is the introduction of Security Center, the single point of access for managing NetDocuments’ security solutions for data governance and compliance. Security Center will be featured at ILTACON and includes the following:

  • Data Lost Prevention (DLP): Classify content and apply policies to manage content exfiltration deep in the platform not at the perimeter where the loss has already occurred
  • Extended global capability with new datacenters located in Germany for early 2020
  • Billions of files encrypted with maximum entropy to protect against growing cyber threat
  • Compliance to ISO, SOC, GDPR, and future FedRAMP

“When we first started NetDocuments 20 years ago, we knew convincing legal professionals to embrace the cloud would be a challenge, to say the least,” stated Alvin Tedjamulia, NetDocuments’ CTO and co-founder. “We also knew that building a world-class security and governance framework would be mission-critical to our short and especially long-term success. We have moved from “why cloud?” to “why not cloud?” based on our security strength and are now transitioning to a comprehensive compliance and security-as-a-service model to help our customers reduce costs and minimize risk.”

Industry Recognition & Thought Leadership

As part of ongoing growth and expansion of its position as the leading legal cloud platform, NetDocuments and its subject matter experts have continued to earn recognition and accolades from industry peers.

The International Legal Technology Association (ILTA) has recognized Alvin Tedjamulia and Dan Hauck as part of its 2019 Distinguished Peer Awards.

Alvin Tedjamulia, NetDocuments CTO, co-founder, and 40-year legal technology expert, is a finalist for ILTA’s Lifetime Achievement Award, intended to “recognize a career exemplifying the highest standards of personal conduct; a record of fairness and equality, a clear recognition as being a model for others, and a standard-setter in the profession.” The Lifetime Achievement Award winner will be announced at ILTACON 2019 prior to Tuesday’s (20/8), General Session keynote at 9AM.

Dan Hauck, newly promoted to NetDocuments’ Chief Product Officer from his previous role as VP, Product & User Experience, has been added to ILTA’s inaugural Young Professionals to Watch list. The award is intended to recognize rising young professionals under 40 in the legal technology industry, including members, ILTA staff, press, partners, and academics.

So far in 2019, NetDocuments has been recognized by KM World as part of the KMWorld 100, one of the 100 companies that matter in KM, as well as being included in the annual KMWorld Trend-Setting Products list. The National Law Journal has included NetDocuments in its inaugural ‘emerging technologies’ special report. And, TechnoLawyer included both ndMail and ndThread as part of its annual ‘TL Newswire 25 Products of 2019 Award’.

NetDocuments Partner Ecosystem

The NetDocuments platform is made stronger with the engagement of the NetDocuments Partner ecosystem. In 2019 to date, partner sales transactions spanning data migration and integration services, project management, training, partner products and NetDocuments sales by partners have doubled from 2018. New channel partner sign-ups have grown 160% in 2019 from the previous year with more partners getting certified and trained every day, including international expansion. Currently, the NetDocuments active partner network spans 166 companies including technology integrators, integrated service providers, and value-added business partners. NetDocuments customers have access to the AI Marketplace, a collection of vetted AI and machine-learning partners deeply integrated with the cloud platform. In addition, NetDocuments Partner Locator matches requested services with individual partner capabilities and the App Directory allows customers to download apps designed to enhance their NetDocuments experience.
