Geo-aware global storage solution provides firms with global, regional, and local storage flexibility

NetDocuments, the leading cloud document and email management (DMS) provider for law firms and corporate legal departments, today introduced its ndFlexStore technology, which allows firms anywhere in the world to physically store their documents and emails in the cloud, in Microsoft Azure datacenters, in local on-premises stores, or in any combination of the above while simultaneously leveraging NetDocuments' global cloud platform.

NetDocuments' ndFlexStore supports any combination of global, regional, and private storage under a "single library" concept. This permits any user, anywhere worldwide to search, navigate, and access any document globally and transparently, subject only to the security and ethical wall rights regardless of the data storage location.  The actual physical location for each file is automatically determined by the document workspace (matters, cases, clients or projects) or any other configured profile metadata field.

"ndFlexStore allows firms to address data sovereignty, client consent compliance, and information governance policies on data privacy with a single technology platform," noted Matt Duncan, CEO of NetDocuments. "This positions NetDocuments as the only solution for firms desiring the ultimate flexibility in both geo-aware and client/matter-aware document storage under a single global document library with the highest levels of usability."

NetDocuments directly manages eight global datacenters in the US, UK and Australia, and now via Microsoft Azure, NetDocuments offers regional storage in Canada, Singapore, Hong Kong, Germany, Netherlands, Ireland, China, Japan, Korea, Brazil, India, and in all existing or future Microsoft Azure facilities.  Additionally, NetDocuments now allows private storage facilities to be deployed in any private location desired by the firm. The ndFlexStore technology extends NetDocuments capabilities offering an extremely flexible service and user interface as well as extremely flexible storage architecture.

"In 2017, law Firms will start to challenge the legacy practice of having multiple DM collections segregated into physical geographies as multiple independent libraries.  The sense of a "single unified firm" will prevail with a single client-document library across all geographies, sovereign locations, local and cloud storage, and global and private libraries, with a single index governing all searches and navigations, subject only to document security and ethical walls. This is what ndFlexStore delivers," stated Alvin Tedjamulia, NetDocuments' CTO.

NetDocuments recently announced that Orrick will leverage NetDocuments' ndFlexStore for regional 'geo-aware' storage. Canadian firm McLennan Ross will rely on ndFlexStore as well, leveraging the global cloud-based DMS platform while separating data storage locations – solving the long-standing issue of data sovereignty through intelligent 'geo-aware' document storage."
