NetDocuments brings document management directly into MS Office applications and integrates the enterprise content management service with Dropbox and SkyDrive
NetDocuments, the leader in cloud-based email and document management, announced the development of two new technologies – ndOffice and ndConnect – to enhance the user experience in NetDocuments' cloud-computing content management and collaboration service. The technologies embed core document management functions directly into Microsoft Office, Office 365, SkyDrive and Dropbox, bringing deeper integrations and increased functionality with these industry-standard desktop and web applications to NetDocuments' service.
ndOffice: NetDocuments has reengineered native Microsoft Office integrations to function entirely inside the Office applications, including the streaming versions of Office 365 Web Apps. Metadata tagging (profiling), file open, file save and folder and workspace navigation are all now available directly within the Office application.
"NetDocuments ndOffice brings document management inside Word, Excel, and Power Point to offer end users an integrated and seamless experience while working with NetDocuments," said Leonard Johnson, vice president of marketing and product management at NetDocuments. "With no more switching back and forth between these applications and the browser, users can now manage versions, apply profile and security templates, open recent documents and perform global searches all within the Microsoft Office user interface."
One of the critical challenges for document management is the consciousness users must have in proactively checking in documents to the online repository. NetDocuments ndOffice eliminates this action by automatically routing every save – not just after the final document close – into NetDocuments' service. "This is an unprecedented convenience where a local application can save documents directly to our cloud-based service," added Johnson.
ndConnect: Offers the ability to easily synchronize content from Dropbox and SkyDrive directly to folders in the NetDocuments enterprise repository. This allows users to continue using these familiar applications, while enterprise compliance and IT departments gain the peace of mind knowing data is secure and accounted for as part of the overall information governance strategy.
"NetDocuments' professional users, such attorneys and financial advisors, are often asked by their clients to access documents created in popular storage services such as Dropbox and SkyDrive. Unfortunately, they cannot consistently collaborate on these platforms because of compliance and governance reasons," noted Johnson. "With ndConnect, users can control the permissible flow of documents in and out of NetDocuments with the required enterprise-grade security and compliance."
